His total haul was $124,632.24, split almost evenly between bounties and prize pool, after he.

SCOOP - Spring Championship of Online Poker - PokerStars

The Russians dominated Thursday in the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) as the festival crowned its first double champion. All the latest news from the SCOOP tables…

TODAY’S HEADLINES

• Martirosyan is first double champ of SCOOP 2020
• Russian wins second huge high roller of the week
• Two other Russian champions, including Filatov
• Myrmo wins second SCOOP five years after first
• Entries top 60K; prize-pools more than $40 million

BEHIND THE HEADLINES

Martirosyan bags another high roller: SCOOP 2020 has its first double champion — and this guy did it in style. Please take a bow, Artur “mararthur1” Martirosyan, who last night added victory in the $5,200 Midweek Freeze to his earlier $10,300 High Roller, winning two of the highest buy-in events of the festival in the space of a week. Martirosyan won $271,790.44 for beating a 124-entry field the first time, and added another $157,426.77 for defeating 144 this time, completing a spectacular double. The latest final table was breathtakingly difficult, featuring two other players who had already won during this SCOOP — Ole “wizowizo” Schemion and “consi11” — as well as double Main Event champion Gianluca “Tankanza” Speranza, and Uruguay’s best, Francisco “Tomatee” Benitez. But they all fell by the wayside as Martirosyan, from Russia, beat “pm_marke” heads up.

Anatoly “NL_Profit” Filatov

Filatov makes it two for Russia: Another Russian great celebrated a second SCOOP title last night when Anatoly “NL_Profit” Filatov beat a field of 5,565 entries to win the $109 buy-in PKO event, earning $54,959.91 including bounty payouts. Filatov last won in SCOOP in 2018 (also a PKO event) and also has a WCOOP title to his name, as well as two Winter Series titles. (He also has more than $5 million in live tournament winnings.) Filatov’s total haul comprised $33.5K from the main prize pool and a further $21,392 in bounties. Filatov is also lying fifth of the 35 remaining in the $2,100 buy-in 6-Max, which resumes today.

Three in a night: Russia’s third title of Thursday night was earned by “fantomvmk“, who won the high buy-in version of Event 31, picking up more than $103,000 including bounties. The deep stages of this tournament was stacked with stars, including Sami “Lrzlzk” Kelopuro (22nd), Yuri “theNERDguy” Martins (19th), Steve “Mr. Tim Caum” O’Dwyer (15th), Niklas “Lena900” Astedt (12th), Max “goodeh99” Silver (6th) and Vlad “dariepoker” Darie (5th), but the relatively unknown fantomvmk outdid them all, beating former SCOOP champion “Tonn22” heads-up.

Five years later, another for Myrmo: We last caught up with Espen “locomi” Myrmo in 2015, when the New Zealand based Norwegian made two final tables in SCOOP and won his first title. That was pretty huge. He won the Sunday Million Special Edition and banked $237,874.92. Five years later, Myrmo is a SCOOP champion for a second time. He won the $530 rebuy event (236 entries, 527 rebuys, 153 add-ons), which gave him another $89,165. His countryman Andreas “Skjervøy” Torbergsen was also at the final, finishing fourth.

“tsafas13” dims the stars: It may have “only” been a $55 buy-in tournament, but SCOOP-30-M turned into a whopper, with some noted crushers involved until the very latest stages. There were 1,272 entries but a further 2,439 rebuys and 559 add-ons, which swelled the prize pool to $218,410. With more than $34K up top, the final table ended up featuring Sweden’s Jerry “Perrymejsen” Ödeen, who has more than $7.4 million in tournament cashes, the noted German “Sintoras” and Brazil’s finest Joao “IneedMassari” Simao, whose lifetime total cashes, according to Pocket Fives, is closing in on $9.2 million. None of them were a match for “tsafas13“, however, who beat Simao heads up and won a fourth title for Greece during this SCOOP. Ödeen was seventh and Sintoras third.

INTERVIEWS! INTERVIEWS! INTERVIEWS!

We’re catching up with a lot of SCOOP winners this year, all happy to share their experiences of winning big.

There’s no more inspiring story than that of Paul “pistolp999” Kroezen, who has overcome numerous hardships in his life to focus on poker — and now has a SCOOP title to show for it. Kroezen told Martin Harris about how he struggled to the victory and the $23,194.76 first prize, all from a $16 buy-in.

Previous winner interviews:

Adam “adamyid” Owen: Defeating end-boss “veeea”
Matt “MUSTAFABET” Ashton: Tournaments are practice for cash games
Antanas “Nr1InEurope” Bakaitis: “I’m no good at Texas Hold’em!
“MarkBang”: First out to last man standing
“thegodfisher”: Busy broker finds time to win SCOOP title
Oleg “Fukuruku” Vasylchenko: Poor student becomes richer
Michael “Malicious20” Cottier: $9.5K from a $2.20 buy-in tournament!
Dimitrios “papadatos69” Papadatos: Making most of downturn in tourism
William “Williaml666” Barbosa: Best feeling ever!

TWITCH WATCH

“Good flop, good result, good stack. Easy game, easy life.” It’s always fun to see Fintan “easywithaces” Hand doing well at the SCOOP tables, and overnight he is 29th of 70 left in the $530 buy-in SCOOP-32. This hand helped:

Benjamin “Spraggy” Spragg also had a decent Thursday and sits 53rd of 201 coming back in the $215 buy-in event. This hand, in which Spraggy read everything just about perfectly, shows that there’s more than just the chat and the arcade machine to this brilliant streamer:

Scoop Pokerstars 2020

Russia’s three victories tonight brought players from the massive Europe/Asia landmass onto the shoulder of the UK at the top of the countries leader board. But “Sc0RPioN95” also won a title for Britain last night, taking the country total to 16, which is still one ahead of Russia.

PREVIOUS SCOOP COVERAGE

DAY 1 | DAY 2 | DAY 3 | DAY 4 | DAY 5 | DAY 6 | DAY 7

The opening week of the 2020 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) is coming to its conclusion. And what better way to get there than with a hugely familiar champion. Here’s today’s latest news…

TODAY’S HEADLINES

• Four titles for British players, including Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi
• Carrel leads High Roller; Leah in front in Super Tuesday
• Welshman Carey wins biggest prize of night
• Guarantees increased on numerous events

BEHIND THE HEADLINES

Another successful raid for “raidalot”: Not so long ago, we used to talk about Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi as being a hedge fund manager who sometimes dabbled in poker. But we have also known for a long time that this “dabbling” is a good deal more expert than almost any other “recreational” player on the planet. Shakerchi won his first SCOOP title in 2012, his second in 2014 and two years later won the SCOOP Main Event. Last night, Shakerchi was at it again, winning the $2,100 2-7 Triple Draw, denying a galaxy of superstars their shot at glory. Joao “Naza114” Vieira was second, Elior “Crazy Elior” Sion was third, Matthew “MUSTAFABET” Ashton was fourth, “RaúlGonzalez” (a former SCOOP champion) was fifth, Luke “lb6121” Schwartz was sixth and Rory “mafews” Matthews was ninth. Shakerchi banked $42,645.76 and continued his exceptional run in SCOOP.

Another great success for Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi

Schwartz and Glaser beaten: Luke “lb6121” Schwartz has five SCOOP titles to his name already, but it’s been a series of near misses this time — at least so far. Schwartz finished third in the $55 buy-in NLO8 last night, which was then chopped between eventual winner “Zadavljugada“, from Russia, and the UK’s “barry_dread”, for close to $13K apiece. The high buy-in version of that event went to Brazil’s “teruliro“, who added a SCOOP title to his two WCOOP victories. teruliro has previously won a NLHE WCOOP title in 2019 and a 5-Card Omaha event in 2016 (and also came runner up in a SCOOP Sunday Warm-Up in 2017), so this was no surprise. Benny “RunGodlike” Glaser made yet another final table but finished fifth.

“Sngwonder” not bad at MTTs either:Owain Carey‘s best result in live poker is the €102,400 he won for finishing sixth in a particularly tough €2,000 buy-in event at EPT Prague, where the top five were Louis Salter, Dan Shak, Eugene Katchalov, Ben Pollak and Ari Engel. But playing online as “Sngwonder”, Carey last night hit a new high point when he took down the $530 6-Max PKO, winning $80,752 from the main prize pool and a further $69,292 in bounties, for a total $150,044 haul. Carey, from Wales, adds another title to the British pile — and wins the biggest prize of the night. We’ve featured Carey before, including this interview at EPT Deauville.

Austrian crusher at it again:WATnlos“, based in Austria, is one of the most familiar names at the PokerStars MTT tables, with victories in the Sunday Million and Sunday High Roller to his name. Last night he also added a SCOOP title when he won the $55 NLHE Turbo, skittling through a field of more than 9,200 entries in a matter of six hours. His total haul was $40,639.36, including bounties.

Manuel Ruivo doing his thing live

No big deal for “fellatiado”: We last caught up with Manuel “fellatiado” Ruivo when he was winning the Sunday Warm-Up and telling us not to make a big fuss about it. That was about a year ago. Ruivo was back at the top of the standings last night in SCOOP-22-H, in which he beat a field of 403 to win $73,414 and his first SCOOP title. Ruivo, who is a Portuguese player currently based in the Netherlands, defeated the former WCOOP winner Andrés “wisopekeño!” González (a Spaniard based in London, UK) heads up.

Two up for Ireland: Ireland’s “Consi11” finished fourth behind “com 157” in a huge $1,050 No Limit Hold’em event earlier this week, but went three crucial steps better last night in SCOOP-22-M: $109 NLHE. Ireland’s second victory of this SCOOP series earned Consi11 $46,226.85 after he arranged a heads-up deal with “FoNZ87” of Canada.

Luke “Bit2Easy” Reeves heavily involved in two events

Million dollar chasers: Two tournaments started on Tuesday with $1 million guarantees, and those guarantees were duly smashed. In the $10,300 buy-in High Roller, Charlie “Epiphany77” Carrel leads the last 15, with $272K on the table for the winner. Others still involved include Adrian “Amadi_017” Mateos (third), Wiktor “limitless” Malinowski (fourth), Luke “Bit2Easy” Reeves (fifth) and Mustapha “lasagnaaammm” Kanit (seventh). Mike “goleafsgoeh” Leah is top of the counts in the $1,050 Super Tuesday, where there’s $199,127 up top. Russia’s “Futti18” is alive in both, placed second in the $10,300 and 36th in the $1,050.

Schemion aiming for second: The $2,100 buy-in SCOOP-26-H has also created an enormous prize pool, with 310 entries putting $620,000 in the pot. Ole “wizowizo” Schemion leads the last 41 in that one, which also resumes today. Luke “Bit2Easy” Reeves is in third, meaning he’ll restart today in the top five of two massive tournaments.

INTERVIEWS! INTERVIEWS! INTERVIEWS!

We’re catching up with a lot of SCOOP winners this year, all happy to share their experiences of winning big.

How about the story of Hungary’s “MarkBang”, who was the first player out of the 5-Card Draw PKO, but re-entered and was then the last man standing. Then there’s “thegodfisher” from Manchester, in the UK, who says he doesn’t have much time to play poker, but still won nearly $100K in one of the big PKO events.

Oleg “Fukuruku” Vasylchenko described himself at the beginning of his career as a “poor student looking for ways to make myself a bit richer” and this week, ten years later, won SCOOP-9-H, for $77,273.17. There was a hefty ROI too for Michael “Malicious20” Cottier, who won $9,444.66 in a $2.20 buy-in re-buy tournament. “There were three occasions when I was down to two or three big blinds,” Cottier said.

Statistics

Michael “Malicious20” Cottier

Last but not least, there’s Dimitrios “papadatos69” Papadatos, who was the first player to be crowned champion during this SCOOP. He runs his family’s supermarket on the beautiful island of Kelafonia, off the west coast of Greece, and relies on tourism for his well-being. This year is obviously very different, which means Papadatos has had more time to play poker — and he won the $11 low edition of Event 4, a No Limit Hold’em freeze-out with $80K guaranteed. He won $15,084, but said: “I know that poker is a game of skill and if I play bigger buy-in tournaments, the regs are going to eat me alive. So I will try to improve by studying poker theory and climb the stakes slowly.”

Poor Fintan “EasyWithAces” Hand. It’s not been the greatest SCOOP festival for him so far, but it’s only going to take a tiny little adjustment before he starts winning, one suspects. Take the hand in the clip below where he makes a brilliant read but, well, doesn’t quite make the most of it…

LEADER BOARD LATEST

It’s kind of a miracle that Rui “RuiNF” Ferreira hasn’t won a title in this year’s SCOOP. We’re six days in after all. But Ferreira has certainly been playing a ton and, as of this time yesterday (the latest figures available), Ferreira had cashed 19 times from 74 entries, banking $169,363.48. That is enough to keep him atop the current Player of the Series overall leader board.

Remember, this year there are two phases to the leader board race, one for the first half of SCOOP and one for the second week. Players can win SCOOP tickets from the first part and then cash prizes for the second, specifically $5,000 for the low, $7,500 for the medium and $10,000 for the high. The overall Player of the Series takes an additional $25,000 and a trophy.

Here’s how we currently stand:

COUNTRIES LEADER BOARD

There were first titles on Monday for players from Finland, Belgium and Denmark, with tournament wins spread among 12 different countries on a single day. Four of those titles went to players in the UK, however, which meant Brits extended their lead at the top of the leader board.

Ten titles have gone to Russia, but only six so far to Brazil. They need to pull their socks up. Brazilians have been near the top of every leader board in major series over the past few years, but they’re lagging this time.

Latest standings:

13: UK
10: Russia
Six: Brazil, Netherlands
Five: Germany
Four: Ukraine
Three: Hungary, Greece, Austria
Two: Romania, Poland, Ireland

STARTING TODAY

Day 7: Wednesday, May 6

Two of the big hits from the earlier days of SCOOP combine into one tournament today as the ever-popular PLO is given extra spice by the addition of rebuys. Those with deep pockets have a $300K guarantee attached to the $530 buy-in edition, while you can dip your toe for $5.50 at the lower end. Prior to that, and kicking off the day, is an intriguing Stud Hi/Lo event. There’s a terrific Stud Hi/Lo tutorial on the game available at PokerStars School.

Guarantees have also now been raised on a heap of events across the festival, so there’s even more money certain to be on the line. Of course, buy-ins have not been touched. It’s just more bang for your buck.
